BDS Photography Competition 2018 is Now Open!

Submit your photographs without delay to be in with a chance of winning the 1st prize of £200; 2nd Prize of £100 or 3rd Prize of £50 and having your photographs published in Dams & Reservoirs and/or used on the BDS website.

Closing date for entries is 7th September 2018 and the winners will be announced at the BDS 20th Biennial Conference.

Please contact The BDS Secretary (BDS@ice.org.uk) if you have any problems submitting your photographs via the competitions tool within the BDS Member's Area of the website. 

Rules

  1. Photographs must be original work,
  2. Photographs should be high resolution, JPEG format (minimum 3,000 pixels or 3MB recommended),
  3. Entrants must be the sole owner of copyright in all photographs entered and must have obtained the permission to publish the photograph, of any person featured and/or reservoir owner, as necessary,
  4. Entrants must not have breached any laws when taking their photographs,
  5. Entrants can submit up to two photographs electronically in colour or black and white and no entrant can win more than one prize,
  6. The competition is open to members of the British Dam Society and Institution of Civil Engineers as well as university and college students,
  7. Competition winners will receive the following: 1st Prize £200; 2nd Prize £100; 3rd Prize £50,
  8. Each photograph entry shall be uploaded to www.britishdams.org (Competition section of the Member's Area). The name and location of the dam or reservoir and the date the photograph was taken shall be provided,
  9. Entrants will retain copyright of the photographs they submit to the British Dam Society. By entering the competition, all entrants grant the British Dam Society the right to publish and exhibit their photographs on the British Dam Society website and in print in Dams and Reservoirs Journal and other media. No fees payable for any of the above uses,
  10. The British Dam Society reserves the right to cancel this competition or alter any of the rules at any stage if deemed necessary in its opinion, and if circumstances arise out of its control,
  11. All entries will be judged by a panel of British Dam Society committee and/or non-committee members who will shortlist no more than 12 photographs. Attendees at the British Dam Society Conference 2018 will have the opportunity to vote on the shortlisted entries,
  12. The winning entries will be announced at the British Dam Society Conference 13th– 15th September 2018. The winners will also be notified by email.
