BDS Committee Nominations

Please Note: Nominations close on Monday 28th February 2022.

Earlier this month we opened nominations to become an elected member of the main BDS Committee (2022-2025). There are up to 12 elected committee members within the BDS Committee who all work across one of our 5 strategic objective working groups (Membership, Knowledge, Professionalism, Education and Informing Opinion). Each committee member is asked to attend 4No committee meetings during the year and support key BDS activities however possible (for example the Conference / SE Forum, Competitions, evening meetings).

The BDS is proud to announce that in 2022 we are introducing a new role within the committee specifically for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. This initiative was raised by Kyle McClean and Lucy Monkhouse in the BDS YP Group and is one the BDS Main Committee wished to fully support and implement immediately. Therefore following the AGM in April our aim is to assign one of the committee members to the role. We would strongly encourage anyone who may be interested in this role to put themselves forward to become an elected committee member. The key to success of this new role is someone who has ability to connect with people, be an effective communicator and have experience building strong working relationships.

We anticipate the Diversity and Inclusion role will include the following responsibilities within the Committee.

  • Responsible for instilling a diverse and accepting culture across the society.
  • Identify areas in which the committee can improve its efforts to be more inclusive and help it adapt to ensure everyone has the facilities to be comfortable within the society.
  • Liaising with the ICE Vice President Membership & Diversity, Director Membership, and the Fairness Inclusion Respect (FIR) Committee.
  • Setting and implementing a D&I strategy and action plan for the BDS and engaging with membership and committee members to help implement the ICE Diversity Action Plan.
  • Help with the reviewing of policies and action plans to ensure they speak for everyone in the society.
  • Run workshops on D&I for BDS members and help arrange events that help celebrate diversity, such as events with donations going to minority charities.
  • Providing advice to committee members on ways to improve D&I.

If you are interested in joining the BDS committee and contributing further to our society, please complete the attached candidate nomination form to the BDS Secretary not later than the 28th February 2022 (preferably via email to bds@ice.org.uk)
